An insight into the arming and directing of Loyalist death squads over three decades of conflict in Ireland by successive British Government administrations.

This information pack has been produced for the benefit of our members and the community as a whole.
The need for this information pack arose through our family support work over the last number of years.

The 1970’s and 1980’s saw a huge number of controversial State and loyalist killings where focus was often deliberately blurred by those responsible, and where public opinion was also divided.

Between 9th and 11th August eleven people were killed in the Ballymurphy area of West Belfast. All eleven were killed by the British Army’s Parachute Regiment. All eleven were unarmed civilians....

The Historic Enguiries Team (HET)

What is the HET?

The PSNI Historic enquiries Tream was set up in January 2006 to reinvestigate killings that occurred during the conflict. it is and integral part of the PSNI.

It will investigate killings carried out by the British Army and where Collusion is suspected or alleged.

it will not investigate killings carried out by the RUC - These will probably be carried out by the Police Ombudsman.

Who are They?

The PSNI state that officers investigating the killings carried out by the Britias Army will not be retired or current members of the PSNI?RUC. in these cases investigating officers will be from English Police constularies.

For twenty –five years the counter insurgency methods of the British Government in Northern Ireland has involved a Shoot-to-Kill policy, in direct ambushes when both innocent victims and suspects have been shot dead without warning, and in a sinister indirect campaign of murder which involved manipulation of loyalist paramilitaries who were provided with security information and who then killed with the knowledge that they were free from prosecution.
