Preliminary Inquest into Gerard Slane’s killing – state secrets sought by family

At preliminary inquest hearing yesterday into Gerard’s killing Teresa Slane, Eileen Slane (Gerard’s sister), Paul Pierce lawyer for the family of Kevin Winters Law (KRW Law), and Lauren Fagan also from KRW Law, Mark Thompson RFJ Director.

It was disclosed that there are 20 lever arch folders of sensitive material relating to Gerard’s murder. These relate to material viewed by Lord Stevens, Justice Cory and Desmond de Silva.

Lawyers acting for the family, Paul Pierce and Counsel Fiona Doherty QC, raised the issue of the state’s involvement in the killing, the role of Brian Nelson and that at his trial false evidence had been given about his role and therefore there was a need for fresh statements to be taken as part of the inquest.

Speaking afterwards Teresa Slane said:

‘I simply want the inquest to move forward as quickly as possible and for all the material concerning Gerard’s murder to be provided to the Coroner and my legal team. In order to establish the full facts and circumstances it is essential that this includes all military intelligence and police reports as seen by Stevens, Cory and de Silva.’
